Easter Sunday was my Little Dum Dum Club day. This is the first chance I've had to see Tommy in a solo show after enjoying the podcast for some time.
Tommy has clearly put a lot in to this show and it's paid off - there's a good use of the AV elements that he's incorporated and they don't seem forced / wedged in like they some times can; he was able to win over the room quickly and realising that the rest of the crowd were against them from the get go - two hideous drunk hecklers left pretty sharpish.
This is a show that's full of fun and silliness as Tommy talks about the impacts that big personalities and key events can have on your life. He' clearly having fun, adding new bits regarding his parents review of the show after visiting earlier that week.
Comedy often holds a mirror up to society to face topics we should be talking about, most often before we're ready - Tommy is one of a number of Australian male comedians who I've seen this MICF exploring what masculinity means today - it doesn't seem like rich territory for belly laughs - but Cutie Pie found that sweet spot and will keep getting better.
